The Quick Report: I arrived home at 10:45pm. The trip wasn't too bad.... mostly. Heavy
rains from Rocky Mount in to Raleigh, so hard that folks were pulling
over. Clearer skies until I hit the mountains where the wind was
bad, I thought I was going to lose the board. Or my car.
The good:
What a great bunch of folks!
The bad:
Getting held under for a couple of waves and getting to feel my "mammalian reflex" work.
The ugly:
Someone walking around in their tighty whities.
I need to sleep, I am one tired pup.
I had fun even though I missed out on the prime days. Nice folks, everyone was super laid back.
We scored on Thursday night at the lighthouse, I was at the 3rd break,
Chris was at the 1st jetty. 2 locals (older guys) were out
longboarding, they were a treat to watch. Very stylish.
I was out almost solo, mostly knee rides. Thicker walls, I got covered
once in a dry tube, the other times it was a wet cover. Took the wave
of the day, made the drop, hit a huge piece of chop and got air,
landed upside down then the lip hit me. Took a while to get that grin off of my face. :D

The Daily Report: Monday: Drivetime! I left town at 3:35am, stopped by work to reboot a server, then hit the road. Arrived in Avon around noon to Neal's pancakes and bacon. After intros I ate. Nice job, Neal, they hit the spot. Picked up a RipCurl 1mm jacket as a backup if it doesn't warm up some.
Tuesday: Went out to Mitchell's with Paul. Met Chris S, KC and Kirk on the beach. It's been a while since I was in the water. Sucky sesh, but it felt great to get wet.
Wed: Morning and arvo sessions with Chris S and Rod, both at S curves. Shelved the board, took out the sponge/speedbump instead. Had a great time in chest + sets. Took off on the wrong wave way too late and was under for 2 waves.... the sponge leash wrapped around my ankle while I bounced around the bottom. Beached it for a breather before rejoining the lineup. Rod was having a blast on his paipo, some late drops. Late arvo sesh was cleaner, stayed out until it was getting too dark and I felt like the landlord's dinner.
Thurs: AM sesh across from the house. Beautiful day, lots of Carolina Blue Sky. Evening sesh was at the lighthouse after checking Avon and Frisco Pier. Chris at the jetty, me at the 3rd break down sharing the lineup with some guy on a log and 2 post HS gals learning to surf. Had some great drops, got covered several times, wet and mostly non wet. 2 guys on logs were putting on a nice show towards the end of the sesh, lots of great stoke. Chris S was truely enjoying himself.
Friday: AM sesh was out in front of the base. Maybe waist high, semi clean, pretty day lovely water. Started out on the 7'6" (damn I hate that NSP), ended up on the sponge. After a post sesh cleanup and lunch the two remaining GP2K4 members (Chris S and I) hit the road.
Wrap Up: I enjoyed this trip. I wish the waves were better early on and that I had been able to arrive on Saturday vs Monday, but it was nice to get away and meet some cool folks. No one had an attitude, just a great bunch of guys and a gal. Already sent my funds in for next year.
